45135 3rd Carabinier

45135 3rd Carabinier has seen little work done on the locos engine rebuild recently. It is reported that some bodywork repairs and a thorough examination of the locos main generator have been added to the list of outstanding work. The loco is unlikely to haul trains during 2011.

45135 3rd Carabinier has moved into the carriage shed at Buckley Wells on the East Lancs Railway with work continuing on the engine rebuild. B-side of the engine is almost complete. The last cylinder liner (B3) required lapping by hand in order to restore it to a reasonable condition due to the heavy pitting that was found.

45135 3rd Carabinier has had 5 of its 12 cylinder liners fitted as part of the locos engine overhaul.

No work has been undertaken on the top end overhaul of 45135 3rd Carabinier during the period under review. Various plans are being formulated to get the overhaul on track but a return to traffic during 2010 is very unlikely.

Little work has been completed on the top end overhaul of 45135 3rd Carabinier but it is hoped that the overhaul will continue now that the days are not so cold and daylight hours are getting longer.

The engine top end overhaul of 45135 3rd Carabinier is on-going with all of the pipework removed to allow access to one bank of the power unit cylinder heads. 3 of these heads have been overhauled, but work on the loco has been put on the back burner recently due to the cold weather.

Progress on the restoration of 45135 3rd Carabinier at the East Lancs Railway has been slow over the period under review. It is not expected that 45135 will return to traffic during 2009.

Progress on the restoration of 45135 3rd Carabinier at the East Lancs Railway has been slow over the period under review. It is hoped that this will speed up once the weather gets a bit better. It is not expected that 45135 will return to traffic during 2009.

45135 3rd Carabinier has had the urinal, water tank and associated pipe work removed and all of the air pipes below the floor have been cut out in readiness for replacement pipes to be fitted. It is not expected for 45135 to return to traffic during 2009 due to the amount of outstanding work to be undertaken as part of the locos overhaul.

The overhaul of 45135 3rd Carabinier at Bury on the East Lancs Railway is progressing well. 48 new steel transition bushes have been made to the original drawing. The fuel gallery on B side of the engine is now ready to be rebuilt with replacement push rod tubes. The rebuild of the engine block is about to be started once final work on 3 cylinder liners has been completed. At number 2 end, the toilet water tank and associated pipework has been removed and all of the air pipes below the floor have been cut out and removed in readiness for replacement pipes to be fitted. A similar problem to 45108.
